WODC is investing in additional resources to crack down on fly-tipping and other environmental offences

West Oxfordshire District Council is investing in additional resources to crack down on fly-tipping and other environmental offences, helping to keep our towns, villages and countryside clean and safe.
In 2025, the Council received 1,754 reports of environmental offences, including fly-tipping, littering and waste burning. This led to 219 investigations, with 63 warnings and 55 fixed penalty notices issued.
As part of wider budget plans, a new post is being proposed to support the Council’s Environmental Crime Officer. This will mean more investigations, faster follow-up to reports and a stronger presence in known fly-tipping hotspots.
The Council is clear that fly-tipping will not be tolerated and is stepping up enforcement action. However, residents also have a legal duty of care to ensure their waste is passed to authorised waste carriers. Using unlicensed operators could result in fines if waste is dumped illegally.
This investment forms part of the Council’s wider commitment to protecting West Oxfordshire’s environment and supporting clean, safe communities.
