Beware of fly-tipping scams

Make sure your waste is being dumped legally!

Residents are being warned about criminals posing as licensed waste carriers and offering to take away rubbish for cash. If your waste is later dumped illegally, you could be fined up to £600 or even prosecuted under the Environmental Protection Act 1990.

You have a legal duty of care to make sure your waste is only passed to an authorised person.

How to protect yourself

  1. Check that the person or business is registered with the Environment Agency as a waste carrier, broker or dealer. You can do this online at: https://environment.data.gov.uk/public-register/view/index
  2. Ask for a receipt for any waste removed.

By staying vigilant, you can help stop illegal dumping and keep our communities clean and safe.
