Building new slip roads at the A40/B4022 Shores Green junction to improve access to Witney, reduce congestion in the town centre, and provide new footpaths and crossings.

Progress on installation of new streetlight columns
There has been considerable progress in installing new street lighting columns across the scheme this April. These columns are intended to improve illumination throughout the area, enhancing visibility and safety for motorists and pedestrians alike. Over the coming month, work will continue to install and connect the street lights to the power supply.
Fencing along the North footpath
Current efforts are focused on installing new fencing along the North footpath. This fencing will provide a secure barrier between the water and the walkway, helping to prevent accidental falls. It will also help to secure the area by discouraging unauthorised access and safeguarding this valued community asset.
Preparation for B4022 resurfacing
Progress is being made to prepare the B4022 for resurfacing. The current phase involves levelling the road and laying a reinforcement layer to strengthen the carriageway before the final surface is applied. These improvements are intended to provide a smoother and more resilient road for everyone travelling on the B4022.

Traffic management: advance notice of overnight works
A programme of overnight highway works will take place in late April and May 2026 on the B4022 and A40.
From
23 April 2026 for two nights, remaining resurfacing works and white lining will be completed on the B4022. The B4022, including the on-slip and off-slip roads, will be closed overnight.
From
4 May 2026 for five nights, the A40 eastbound will be closed between Downs Road Roundabout and Ducklington Roundabout to allow signage installation and vegetation clearance. Signed diversion routes will be in place.
From
11 May 2026 for five nights, further overnight works will take place to install road markings. During this time, the A40 will be closed in both directions between the Oxford Hill slip roads and Hill Farm, with clearly signed diversions.
All dates and works are subject to change. Road users are advised to check our website regularly for updates.

Our plans for the environment
While it's been necessary to remove some vegetation to enable construction, we have now started the re-vegetation of the disturbed area. Our robust landscaping and environmental protection strategy includes the following:
- Re-vegetation using native species, with appropriate on- and off-site biodiversity offsetting.
- Implementing erosion control to mitigate soil degradation.
- Continuous monitoring and restoration of natural habitats.
- Planting trees, shrubs, and hedges.
- Creating wildlife-friendly habitats and ecological corridors.
- Safeguarding and enhancing local biodiversity.
Project timeline
- Construction begins on site: Spring 2025 - ongoing
- Construction works completed: Summer 2026
