Updated on the Shores Green Project

Works on the Access to Witney slip roads continue to advance, with a particular focus on the main road construction. We have started laying and compacting the materials needed for the new road, carrying out thorough checks to ensure everything is built to a high standard. In addition, the embankment slope on the north off-slip has now been completed.

Landscaping advances

January has marked another period of strong progress on the landscaping aspects of the project. Additional tree pits have been delivered and installed along the route, including areas surrounding the attenuation ponds as well as the north and south banks.

The planting of new trees will significantly enhance the visual character of the area while supporting biodiversity net gain. The trees will also make use of naturally available water, helping to improve drainage and contributing to more sustainable management of surface water across the site.

Social value with Witney Foodbank

The project team has continued to work diligently to keep the project moving forward while maintaining the highest standards. At the same time, we have not lost sight of our responsibility to the wider community. During the colder, more challenging weeks, the team came together to collect food donations for the Witney Food Bank, recognising the importance of supporting the community we serve.

Our plans for the environment
While it's been necessary to remove some vegetation to enable construction, we have now started the re-vegetation of the disturbed area. Our robust landscaping and environmental protection strategy includes the following:

  • Re-vegetation using native species, with appropriate on- and off-site biodiversity offsetting.
  • Implementing erosion control to mitigate soil degradation.
  • Continuous monitoring and restoration of natural habitats.
  • Planting trees, shrubs, and hedges.
  • Creating wildlife-friendly habitats and ecological corridors.
  • Safeguarding and enhancing local biodiversity.
