Access to Witney Update

Adjustments to traffic management

From 22 September until the end of November, there will be some adjustments to the current traffic management arrangements on the B4022. The changes will see the existing three-way traffic lights reduced to a two-way system, which will help to minimise waiting times for road users.

In addition, a newly constructed footpath will be opened for pedestrians, providing a safer and more convenient alternative to the temporary footway currently in place.

The lane closure will be positioned on the same side as the site compound, meaning there will be fewer lorries and vehicles needing to cross the carriageway. This should further improve safety and reduce disruption for both pedestrians and motorists.

Main works continue apace

Over the last four months, the project has made significant progress:

  • Vegetation clearance has been completed to allow for the safe construction of both slip roads.
  • The bulk of earthworks excavation is now complete, creating the foundations for the next stage of civil works.
  • Construction of a new footpath has been completed to replace the temporary footway along the project extent on the B4022.
  • Traffic management measures are in place to protect both road users and our workforce while works are ongoing.
  • Utilities diversion works have been successfully completed, ensuring minimal disruption to local services.

Project team delivers social value at Springfield School garden

The Access to Witney project team recently partnered with Springfield School to bring exciting improvements to the school’s garden and outdoor learning area.

The team commenced by cleaning and uncovering the paved walkway, creating a refreshed and welcoming space for pupils. Subsequently, we constructed three raised planting beds using reclaimed railway sleepers and provided gardening equipment and seeds so that children could begin planting. Our aim was to support the pupils in developing their independence and to help them acquire valuable life skills through practical gardening activities.

We plan to return to the school during the next half-term to build additional raised beds, ensuring even more children can enjoy and benefit from this outdoor learning experience.

Our plans for the environment

While it's been necessary to remove some vegetation to enable construction, we have a robust landscaping and environmental protection strategy to restore the site. Key measures include:

  • Re-vegetation of disturbed areas with native species and appropriate biodiversity offsetting off and onsite.
  • Implementation of erosion control, measures to mitigate soil degradation.
  • Continuous monitoring and restoration of natural habitats and ecosystems.
  • Planting of trees, shrubs and hedges.
  • Creation of wildlife-friendly habitats and ecological corridors.
  • Implementation of measures to safeguard and enhance local biodiversity.

Dear Customer, We're writing on behalf of Thames Water, your water wholesaler, to remind you that the hosepipe ban introduced on Tuesday 22 July is still in effect in your area. Thanks to your efforts, businesses and households across the region have already helped save millions of litres of water each day. However, despite recent rainfall, reservoir and groundwater levels remain well below average. While rainfall has allowed Thames Water to start replenishing reservoirs, it will take months of steady rain for rivers, groundwater and reservoirs to fully recover. That's why the temporary use ban remains essential, and why it's important that we continue the water saving efforts as we move into autumn. FIND OUT MORE HERE Please continue to be water efficient this autumn Your business is covered by the hosepipe ban, and even though the impact is limited, your continued support helps protect the water supply for everyone in your community and reduces the risk of further disruption. Reduce water use where possible - for example, scheduling vehicle washing outside peak periods (early morning/late evening) Checking for leaks on-site - even a small constant dribble can waste around 400 litres per day Stopping urinals flushing overnight - turning off the flow can save thousands of litres Raise awareness of employees - small steps by everyone can add up to greater savings For more information or to report urgent issues, please call Thames Water's 24-hour helpline on 0800 316 9800. Thanks for your continued cooperation. If you have any questions or need assistance, please don't hesitate to contact us - we're here to help.
