Nature and climate community action gets the Greenlight!

Residents and communities looking for more ways to live a greener life will be able to join others to exchange ideas, and work together to take climate and nature action as West Oxfordshire District Council launches its first dynamic online hub, Greenlight.

Cabinet Member for Climate, Councillor Andrew Prosser, said: “We have declared climate and ecological emergencies, but we know we cannot tackle these alone. Everyone in West Oxfordshire can play their part in addressing climate change, helping nature recover and enhancing biodiversity. In March, we hosted an event with parish and town representatives and discussed how we could work together more effectively.

“This platform will bring people together to share ideas and activities around climate change and nature. Whether that is seeking advice on creating a space in their garden for pollinators to thrive, or finding an environmental group to get involved with, residents will be able to find it on Greenlight.

“We know that climate change and nature are important to people and that they want to do more, but sometimes don’t know where to start. Greenlight is a hub for people to find out what works in West Oxfordshire, and to collaborate on future projects. Action is easier together.

“Lots of small actions add up and have co-benefits, for example enhancing nature can help to combat climate change by locking in carbon. Together we can make a difference.”

The Greenlight platform has a number of features including a forum to ask others in the community for their advice and an interactive map of climate and nature related events and volunteering opportunities will enable users to find out what is happening in their area. A directory of environmental groups will also be available.

The platform will launch with the greenspace show and tell. Share with the community how you have enhanced your garden or local greenspace for wildlife and nature, with a chance to win a bird box! Competitions, quizzes, and top tips will feature every few months and a library of ‘best practice’, film and guidance will be added later in the year.
