More electric vehicle charging points go live

Drivers of electric vehicles can now plug in and charge at West Oxfordshire District Council-owned Woolgate car park as part of a continued rollout of electric vehicle charging points (EVCP) across the district. 


The chargers were installed to help motorists make the switch to cleaner, greener driving by providing more places to charge and giving residents, with no off-street parking, the ability to park for free overnight and charge their electric vehicles at a competitive price. 


The 12 charging bays at the north end of the Woolgate Car Park in Witney will be a mixture of 7.4kW Type 2 chargers and 75.0kW rapid chargers.   

The District Council’s car parks now include a total of forty-two charging units, covering seventy-four parking bays. 


Developing the infrastructure to support electric vehicles is just one objective outlined in the Council’s Climate Change Strategy, which includes decarbonising transport in the district. 


Councillor Andrew Prosser, Executive Member for Climate Action and Nature Recovery at West Oxfordshire District Council, said: “Our existing charging points are being well-used. The council is exploring widening the infrastructure available and the new installation of charging points in Woolgate Car Park shows that we are supporting more motorists using cleaner, greener vehicles.” 


James Douglas from Connected Kerb, the contractor responsible for installing the new charge points, said: “We’re excited to unveil our latest EV charging installation at The Woolgate Centre Park in West Oxfordshire. Working closely with West Oxfordshire District Council, we’ve installed two 75kW chargers and eight 7kW chargers. This charger combination ensures a diverse range of charging options to meet the needs of EV drivers and marks a significant step forward in providing accessible and convenient charging infrastructure for residents and visitors.” 


The five existing Council owned car parks with EV charging are: Back Lane, (Eynsham), New Street (Chipping Norton), Black Bourton Road (Carterton), Hensington Road (Woodstock) and Woodford Way (Witney).
