Do you want to be a Councillor on our Parish Council?
As some of you may know many parts of the UK are holding local elections on Thursday 7th May 2026. Here in Ducklington we will have an election for a seat on West Oxon District Council. There may also be an election for the Parish Council. As a village we can have up to 9 Parish Councillors. We currently have that number, but one has announced they will not be standing this time around.
The Parish Council meets in the Lilac Room at the Village Hall on the first Wednesday of each month. Meetings tend to last around 2 hours.
Am I eligible to stand for election?
To be able to stand as a candidate at a parish or town council election, you must:
- Be a British citizen, an eligible Commonwealth citizen, a citizen of the Republic of Ireland, a qualifying EU citizen or an EU citizen with retained rights.
- Be 18 years of age or older.
- Meet at least one of the following three qualifications:
- You are and will continue to be, registered as a local government elector for the parish you wish to attend from the day of your nomination onwards.
- You have occupied as owner or tenant any land or other premises in the parish area during the 12 months before the day of your nomination and the day of the election.
- Your principal or only place of work during the 12 months before your nomination and the day of the election has been in the parish area.
If we get more than 9 people who wish to stand then there will be a vote on 7th May.
If you have any questions on the Parish Council then contact the Chair David Duthie via e mail on david.duthie@ducklingtonparishcoouncil.gov.uk. Or if you feel you would like to stand then request a nomination pack from the Parish Clerk, Steve Smith at clerk@ducklingtonparishcouncil.gov.uk.
There are lots of new people who have moved into the village since the last election so if you think you could make a difference, why not step up and see.
