Council calls for clearer planning rules to protect nature and local voices

West Oxfordshire District Council has urged the Government to rethink parts of its proposed Planning and Infrastructure Bill

West Oxfordshire District Council has urged the Government to rethink parts of its proposed Planning and Infrastructure Bill. The Council is concerned that some changes could take important environmental decisions away from local communities and make planning less clear and effective.

Councillors say local knowledge is vital for protecting wildlife and shaping good development. They highlighted successful local work, such as helping protect great crested newts while allowing building to continue.

The Council is asking for clearer rules and for decisions and funding to remain local, so communities can stay involved and nature can be properly protected for the future.
