Archaeological trenching works south of Snipe Meadow

Between 11th and 22nd September Oxford Archaeology on behalf of Smiths of Bletchington are conducting trenching works as part of the archaeological investigations assessing proposals for an extension to Gill Mill Quarry.

We have already done some non intrusive survey work and where the surveys have indicated there may be something of interest we are now doing trench investigations.

With the information found in the trenches this will help us understand the archaeology of the area and any further archaeological works that need to be done to assess this with a planning application.

Unfortunately for health and safety reasons we can’t let people wander over the trenches and we’d ask you please not to.

But if you do want to have a look and possibly chat with one of our archaeologists about what we are doing please come along on the afternoon of 22nd September between 1pm to 4pm when we’ll be holding an ‘open trench’ session to speak to members of the public.

This is all part of Smiths assessment work for their extension proposals. There will be a public exhibition with more information about the proposals before a planning application is made. The date and location of the public exhibition will be advertised in the near future.

But in the meantime please feel free to contact Jo Davis email:
Jo@smithsbletchington.co.uk at Smiths if you’d like to find out more.
