Support for vulnerable residents during lockdown
A specialist Council team will this week start contacting more than 4,000 ‘clinically extremely vulnerable’ (CEV) residents across the District.
The aim is to ensure their needs are being met during lockdown. This could include a priority online supermarket delivery, befriending support or help in accessing mental health or welfare services.
People are classed as CEV if they are at very high risk of severe illness from Covid-19 due primarily due to underlying health conditions which force them to take extra precautions.
Vulnerable people are encouraged to stay at home except for exercise and only work if they can do so safely from home.
The Council team is contacting 4132 vulnerable residents. They will begin by sending emails and text messages, asking them to confirm if they are happy or require support.
For those without email or mobiles, there will be ‘phone calls until contact is established. Clearly identifiable officers will knock on people’s doors to check on them if they do not respond to other forms of contact.
Any residents needing help will then be given the appropriate support.

Tennis and playgrounds during lockdown
From Thursday, 5 November, England is in lockdown. The rules are slightly different to the ones we followed last time around: full details will be found at https://www.gov.uk/guidance/new-national-restrictions-from-5-november.
Once again, the tennis court will be closed but the play areas at Chalcroft and Glebelands will remain open. When using the play areas please follow the guidelines on the signs to safeguard your and your children's health. Keep a safe distance from people not in your household and be sure to wash your hands thoroughly when you get home.
We will have tennis up and running again once the restrictions are lifted and use of the court will then continue to be free of charge until Christmas.

Second Lockdown-Oxfordshire must play its part
Oxfordshire must play its part to control the virus and save lives.
Help will be available to those who need it this winter as the Oxfordshire community comes together to do its bit to control the virus and save lives.
It’s clear that the second lockdown will be tough on residents and businesses across the county, which is why it’s so important to make sure it is effective. Oxfordshire’s council leaders, the Thames Valley Police and Crime Commissioner and the Oxfordshire Local Enterprise Partnership have come together to say that everyone must play their part to help control the spread of the virus once again to save lives.
That means staying at home and not gathering with people you do not live with. The full guidance is on the government’s website: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/new-national-restrictions-from-5-november.

Oxfordshire County Council Covid-19 Update
Measures that would slam the brakes on Oxford’s gradual emergence from lockdown have moved a step closer as a result of another week of uncomfortably high rises in COVID cases in the city.
The number of cases in Oxford in the week ending August 21 was 41 - which is 26.9 cases per 100,000 and sees the city moving ever closer to figures in parts of the country that have been labelled by central Government as areas of concern or that require intervention.

The Ducklington Coronavirus Group on Facebook has changed its name to Ducklington Parish Community Group with the intention of developing it into a go-to source for community matters.
However, it continues to be the place to post a message, should you need help or support during the pandemic - whether due to to self isolating, inability to get out to collect groceries or prescriptions or for any other reason.
Your request will be picked up by your area representative.

Coronavirus (Covid19) and Cancer
Cancer Research UK has put together a web guide containing the latest information and important links so people can keep up to date with caring for themselves and others. They ask that you share this link so as many people see this advice as possible.
In addition, they offer the following information on how the charity is supporting the national effort in tackling Covid-19. They say
We are committed to supporting the national effort to tackle Covid-19 and are already using our resources and expertise to help. We:
- have established the Francis Crick Institute as a Covid-19 testing hub for London and are liaising with national co-ordinators to explore how our other institutes can also help;
- are releasing our funded clinical research workforce to return to NHS front line service delivery;
- are developing a targeted research call; and
- are making our research centres, wider infrastructure and lab kit available where they are of use.
As you may have seen in the news in recent days, this crisis is also having a direct impact on Cancer Research UK, and we expect to see our fundraising income decline by up to 25% in the next financial year. As a result, we have made the difficult decision to defer our Spring research funding round, and we are planning further cuts to our research funding. We remain tirelessly committed to making progress for people affected by cancer, but now more than ever, support from Local Government and the public will be vital.
