Starting this month, gym sessions for 14 -25 year olds will only cost £2.50 at West Oxfordshire leisure centres.
The special offer is part of the Sportivate programme to help young people get back into physical activity or find a sport they love.
The usual price for a gym session for those without membership is £10.20 (peak), £9 (off-peak) or £3.90 with a student card.
Young people taking up the gym sessions can also qualify for a reduced-price gym membership after twelve visits.
“All young people need to do is visit the gym twelve times over a twelve week period and then they are eligible to take up a discounted gym membership with no joining fee. They will receive full support from our fitness instructors to help them set achievable goals and adapt programmes as they progress.” – Catherine Alexander, Community Engagement Officer for Better, who helps manage the Sportivate Programme for West Oxfordshire
Participating leisure centres are the Windrush in Witney, Carterton, Chipping Norton and Bartholomews in Eynsham.
“Joining a gym is a convenient and enjoyable way for many young people to get active and stay healthy. Sportivate funding helps to make gym membership affordable for them and so we are very pleased that GLL Better is offering this programme at our leisure centres.” – Cllr Richard Langridge
West Oxfordshire’s leisure centres are managed by GLL Better on behalf of the District Council.
Sportivate is a £56 million Lottery funded London 2012 legacy programme for 14-25 year olds project to give more young people the chance to get active and discover a sport. The funding is being coordinated by Sport England and the Oxfordshire Sports Partnership.
